DIY- Marble Ring Tray

Sunday, March 15, 2015

I have recently been having issues with taking my rings off and finding them in every room of my apartment! I knew I had been needing a ring tray for quite sometime now and finally decided to make one myself. I am really into the black/gray/white marble look with gold accents. I think it is classy and timeless. I went by the local hobby lobby and picked up some items to make this ring dish happen!
|MATERIALS|
- Baking clay.
-X-acto knife or just a sharp knife.
- Paint brush.
- Gold paint.
|STEPS|
  1.  Purchase the clay at your local craft store and pick out any color you want shown in your tray. Cut thicker pieces of the color you want shown more. Roll these pieces to about 5" long.
  2.  Twist the clay together. You may have to do this a couple of times to get the marble look you want.
  3.  Your clay should look like this before you flatten it out.
  4. Use a rolling pen or something round that is able to flatten out your clay. Leave about 1/4" thickness. Take a round object that is around 6" diameter and use it to cut your circle out.  Place your circle into a small oven safe bowl making sure it has enough room to dip down. Bake for the amount of time your baking clay suggests.
  5. Let your ring dish cool and then paint the exposed face of the edge of the plate. You may have to trim some excess clay of the edge.
Enjoy your beautiful ring dish!! It will hopefully save many midi rings from being lost!DIY- M

Tuesday, February 24, 2015

As winter begins to slowly fade and spring begins to pop its beautiful sunny head in,I find myself searching for new items for my home and wardrobe. New arrivals are beginning to pop up in each store, inspiring the designer in me to want to bring this wonderful feeling into my home. Everyone needs a pick-me-up after the cold weather and dull foliage.
I have had my fun with greys, whites, blacks, and occasional pops of maroon. My love for those winter colors lasts year-long but the excitement with the new season always brings out my love for prints and bold colors.
These 5 ways are simple, budget-friendly, and are sure to add some spring into your home!

1.Art
These are easy ways to introduce spring into your home. Floral, insect, and abstract prints bring so much color. These prints can last all the way till fall. If this is the only thing you can afford at the moment, it will be your best bet at changing the look. I added in a fun DIY project to check out as the first print below.

Add some of those newly sprung pansies to liven up the place. As spring gets closer you will be able to add more colors. These will definitely brighten the room and create the perfect spring ambiance.
4. Candles.
New scents will be emerging into each store. Anthropologie always has the perfect candles to get you into the current season. Check out the above scent currently in their store.
5. Accessorize!
Accessorizing is the cheapest way to add in those pops of color. Replacing a lamp shade and accent tables really makes a difference in a room. Check out these items below that would really make a last impression in your living room for spring!

When you are wanting to add some texture or even color to your room, it can be hard trying to figure out what exactly you should add. A perfect way to get your room in tune with your vision is to replace your typical wooden square headboard, or, add a fun headboard if you do not have one. Sometimes they can be too simple and leave your room feeling lonely. Even adding some wall decor above your headboard will help you achieve the look you want.
I have rounded up some of my favorite options to spruce up the bedroom!

This is such a fun way to fill up a wall. Dont be afraid to add in some wall sculptures as well as artwork. Mix up the style of frames as well as the finishes. Make sure you layout your gallery wall before hanging. It can be tedious, but it is worth it!

I was inspired to create some easy and simple home decor items after browsing the web. Accessorizing your home can add up so quickly. I decided I would create a copper "&" sign, a gold and frosted glass vase, and a copper foil Map print.
If any of these items interest you I have also uploaded a YouTube video on how to create these.

Southwestern Glam

Tuesday, February 10, 2015

Lately on most home decor websites I go on, I have been seeing fake animal skulls and woven wall hangings. I have also been completely in-love with geode jewelry and art I decided to create a storyboard of a Southwestern dining room with some glam!
I love adding in metal finishes with warm woods. I think that it is the perfect balance and creates such interesting texture in a room. I personally believe the more textures the better.
This dining room would look amazing with benches on either side and a fun Navajo inspired print for the bench cushion.
The gallery wall contains many different works of art which adds a lot of character to this room.
Do not be afraid to mix metals and textures. Layering is what makes a room, and it also makes your room feel complete.

For The Designer Lacking Inspiration

Tuesday, February 10, 2015

This weekend my boyfriend and I decided to visit the High Museum of Art. If you have not been, it is definitely worth the trip. They have so many fun and inspiring exhibits.
The first section we walked into was the Contemporary art. They had about 40 speakers set up in the center of the gallery and the music being played was The Forty Part Motet by Janet Cardiff. The speakers were placed into a large oval, with eight groups of five speakers. Each group was categorized by soprano, alto, tenor, baritone and bass. I walked around each speaker to hear them individually and then stood in the middle. I have to admit at first it made me laugh because outside of the speakers you are thinking "what the hell is this". But this turned out to be the most memorable experiences I have had at a museum.  It was absolutely enchanting.
Everytime I leave a museum I am always inspired. It is the perfect outlet to go and see works of art that give you a new outlook on life.
If you are a creative person you should always check on local museums near your area to see what exhibitions are currently going on and which ones are coming in the future.
Below I have attached some of my favorite pieces and some shots I took throughout the day.
Such beautiful texture on this crochet chair.
I need this in my life!
This gorgeous table has a leather top.
I could stare at this painting for days!
This was a steel and glass frame design. You could see your reflection which resembled being in a mirror maze.
